Karl Snowball

Karl Snowball is an Area Director based in our Newcastle office at Black & White Engineering, where he leads the development, performance and growth of the regional team. With a strong technical background and a passion for innovation, Karl plays a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions while supporting the continued global expansion of the business.

Karl holds a first-class degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and is an Incorporated Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). With experience spanning back to 2006, he has developed extensive expertise across all aspects of electrical building services design, from early-stage concept through to detailed design, delivery and project handover. His comprehensive understanding of the design process enables him to deliver solutions that are both technically robust and aligned with client and project requirements.

As Area Director, Karl is responsible for overseeing team development, project delivery and client relationships. He is focused on building a high-performing, collaborative team environment, while ensuring that projects are delivered consistently to the standards of quality, clarity and efficiency that define Black & White. His leadership supports sustainable growth in the region, strengthening both local capability and integration with the wider global business.

Karl is a strong advocate for digital engineering and Building Information Modelling (BIM). As one of the first Autodesk Certified Professionals in the UK, he has been at the forefront of BIM adoption and implementation throughout his career. At Black & White, he continues to drive the development and effective application of BIM processes, helping to improve design coordination, efficiency and project outcomes across all stages of delivery.

Prior to his career in building services engineering, Karl served as an Avionics Engineer in the Royal Air Force, working on fast jet aircraft including the Tornado F3. During this time, he developed a disciplined, detail-oriented approach while gaining hands-on experience in complex systems such as radar, communications, navigation and autopilot. His contributions were recognised with multiple awards, reflecting his commitment and technical capability.

Karl brings a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach to his role, combining technical expertise with strong leadership and a commitment to continuous improvement. He continues to support Black & White’s growth by developing talented teams, strengthening client relationships and delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the region.
