Ramamoorthy Sethuramalingam
Director Computational & Fluid Dynamics
Ramamoorthy Sethuramalingam (Ram) is Director of Computational & Fluid Dynamics at Black & White Engineering, bringing a unique blend of advanced research, technical excellence and global project delivery experience. As a recognised leader in mechanical and CFD engineering, Ram plays a key role in delivering innovative, high-performance solutions that support the design of efficient, resilient and sustainable infrastructure.
Ram’s career has been defined by his work in data centre engineering, where his research pioneered one of the most energy-efficient rack-cooled prototypes, achieving capacities of 40kW to 110kW per rack. This work established him as a thought leader in high-density, sustainable data centre design and continues to influence modern approaches to cooling and energy optimisation.
Since joining Black & White in 2022, Ram has led the delivery of a wide portfolio of CFD projects across global markets. His experience spans both data centre developments supporting projects at hyperscale levels of up to 6GW and a range of non-data centre applications. He works closely with clients to solve complex thermal and airflow challenges, translating highly technical analysis into clear, practical solutions that enhance performance and efficiency.
In addition to his core CFD expertise, Ram champions the integration of acoustic engineering within the design process. By combining advanced airflow modelling with high-fidelity acoustic simulations, he supports a holistic approach to environmental performance ensuring that cooling strategies, mechanical systems, and noise control are considered together from the earliest stages. This integrated methodology enables accurate prediction of noise at sensitive receptors, supports compliance with key standards, and helps clients avoid costly late-stage issues. Through close coordination between CFD and acoustic disciplines, Ram ensures that projects deliver not only optimal thermal performance, but also compliant, efficient, and community conscious outcomes.
In addition to his project work, Ram is an active contributor to industry knowledge and best practice. He has authored seven published papers and multiple thought leadership articles, including contributions to leading industry platforms such as Data Centre Dynamics (DCD). His work helps to advance understanding of CFD applications and sustainable design within the built environment.
An accredited Low Carbon Consultant (LCC), Ram is also focused on driving sustainability, supporting organisations in reducing energy consumption and meeting building compliance standards in regions such as England and Scotland. His expertise enables clients to balance performance with environmental responsibility, delivering solutions that are both innovative and aligned with evolving regulatory requirements.
Ram is known for his analytical mindset, technical depth and ability to simplify complex challenges. His leadership continues to strengthen Black & White’s capability in computational engineering, supporting the delivery of high-quality, future-ready solutions for clients across the globe.
