Charlie Bater

Charlie Bater is Chief Technical Officer at Black & White Engineering, specialising in the design and delivery of complex, mission-critical infrastructure. He is responsible for driving technical excellence across the business and shaping Black & White’s product from an innovation perspective, ensuring that its advice is aligned not only to client requirements, but to the needs of their ultimate customers.

Since joining the company, Charlie has played a central role in strengthening its position as a leader in data centre and digital infrastructure engineering. He has led the delivery of a wide range of data centre projects across all stages of development, consistently supporting clients beyond the traditional scope of a design consultancy. His experience spans early-stage advisory through to delivery.

Charlie brings a deep understanding of the technical, commercial and operational challenges faced by clients, enabling him to deliver clear, practical solutions that drive successful outcomes. Charlie adopts a no stone unturned mindset, with his approach ensures that engineering decisions are not only technically robust, but directly support client strategy, performance and long-term value.

In addition to his project leadership, Charlie plays a key role in defining Black & White’s technical standards, innovation strategy and engineering best practice. As CTO, he ensures the business remains at the forefront of advanced engineering and design by embracing emerging technologies, improving delivery efficiency and maintaining the highest levels of quality.
