Area Director, Dublin
Gerard Keating is the Area Director for Dublin at Black & White Engineering, leading the development and delivery of the company’s operations in Ireland while contributing to data centre programmes across Europe and international markets.
As Area Director, Gerard leads the Dublin office, overseeing project delivery and strengthening strategic client relationships in strategically important data centre markets. Since the integration of the Dublin team into Black & White Engineering, he has been instrumental in building a high‑performing, collaborative organisation, aligned with the company’s “One Global Team” ethos, enabling Ireland‑based teams to support complex data centre projects across Europe and beyond.
A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of CIBSE, IHEEM, and the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (ACEI), Gerard brings more than 35 years of experience in the design, leadership, and delivery of complex building services projects worldwide. His career spans healthcare, industrial manufacturing, and mission‑critical infrastructure, with a strong recent focus on hyperscale and enterprise data centre developments.
Highly regarded for his client‑focused leadership style and ability to deliver robust, practical, and future‑ready technical solutions, Gerard leads multi‑disciplinary teams encompassing engineering, architecture, civil and structural design, and specialist data centre stakeholders. He is an Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) with the Uptime Institute, underscoring his expertise in mission‑critical facilities and commitment to the highest international standards. In recognition of his professional contribution, he was awarded the CIBSE Bronze Medal in 2013.
Gerard has played a pivotal role in the delivery of data centre projects across RIBA Stages 1–5, supporting clients in Ireland and contributing to multiple global reference designs across APAC and EMEA. His expertise includes securing planning permissions at early project stages for major IT facilities, demonstrating a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks and the ability to de‑risk projects from inception.
Alongside his project leadership, Gerard is a committed advocate for the engineering profession. He has held academic and professional roles with TU Dublin, including Lecturer and External Examiner, and continues to serve on its Industry Liaison Group. He is also a membership interviewer for Engineers Ireland and oversees CPD within the business, ensuring continuous development and technical excellence.
