Area Director, Manchester

Luke Armstrong is Area Director for Manchester at Black & White Engineering, where he leads the growth and delivery of the company’s operations in the North West of the UK.

With over 19 years of experience in the building services industry, Luke provides strategic leadership across complex mission critical projects, multi-disciplinary engineering teams and major programmes of work. He has a strong track record in leading, developing, and growing high-performing teams, alongside the successful delivery of large-scale, multi-billion-pound projects in the UK and internationally (Europe, Asia, and the Middle East).

A Chartered Engineer and member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Luke holds a first-class honours degree in Building Services Engineering. He has a proven track record of leading the delivery of large-scale, multi-billion-pound data centre projects in the UK and internationally, demonstrating his ability to manage complex programmes while maintaining a clear focus on quality, performance and client outcomes.In his role as Area Director, Luke is responsible for leading the Manchester office, overseeing project delivery and managing key client relationships. He acts as a key account lead for major clients, ensuring consistency in delivery and aligning engineering solutions with wider business objectives. His hands-on approach and commitment to understanding client needs have helped to build long-term partnerships and a strong base of repeat business.

Luke also leads integrated teams across multiple offices on key client accounts, ensuring alignment in delivery standards, communication and technical approach. By fostering strong collaboration between geographically dispersed teams, he maintains consistency, drives efficiency and ensures clients benefit from the full breadth of the company’s expertise regardless of location.

Luke is known for his collaborative leadership style and his ability to bring together multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-performing, technically robust solutions. He is particularly driven by working closely with clients to help them realise their vision, translating complex requirements into clear, practical outcomes that support both immediate project goals and long-term operational success.

Alongside his project responsibilities, Luke is committed to developing the next generation of engineers. He mentors IET members working towards professional registration and contributes to academia as a guest lecturer at a local university, sharing industry insight and supporting emerging talent.
