As a Principal Engineer at Black & White Engineering, you’ll take technical ownership of complex, high-performance electrical systems for some of the world’s most demanding data centre projects. You’ll work collaboratively within a global team that is redefining what great engineering looks like.
What’s in it for you?
Technical leadership that makes an impact
This isn’t a role where you manage from a distance. You’ll lead the electrical design process end to end — from power systems and MV/HV network design through to protection strategies and fault studies. Your technical decisions will shape the quality and standard of delivery across the team.
A platform to develop the next generation of engineers
You’ll play a central role in mentoring and coaching junior and mid-level engineers, helping them grow their skills and confidence. If developing people matters to you as much as delivering great engineering, this role gives you the space to do both.
Work at the forefront of a fast-moving industry
Data centre engineering is one of the most dynamic and fast-growing sectors in the world right now. You’ll stay ahead of new developments, contribute to the company’s Technical Committee and help shape the tools, methods and standards the wider team uses.
Visibility at the highest level
Reporting into the Associate Director, you’ll represent Black & White at technical meetings with clients, professional teams and contractors. It’s a role that builds your external profile as much as your internal one.
A clear pathway to leadership
The Principal Engineer role sits at a pivotal point in the Black & White career structure. With a business that has grown 500% since 2020 and shows no sign of slowing, there is genuine opportunity to progress into Associate Director and beyond for the right person.
Essential skills
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering (BEng/BSc) with significant post-qualification experience in building services or MEP design
- Demonstrable expertise in power systems and MV/HV network design, including protection, load flow, fault and arc flash studies
- Strong working knowledge of international electrical codes and standards
- Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams within a consultancy or design environment
- Data centre design experience is a strong advantage
- Chartered Engineer status is desirable — support towards chartership is available
