What is BREEAM?

Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, is the world’s first and most widely used sustainability assessment framework for buildings. Since its launch in 1990, it has achieved nearly three million registrations and certified over 750,000 buildings globally, holding approximately 80% market share across the EU. The framework evaluates projects across nine categories: Management, Health and Wellbeing, Energy, Transport, Water, Materials, Waste, Land Use and Ecology, and Pollution. Each category sets specific environmental and social performance targets, from sustainable procurement and carbon reduction through to biodiversity protection and indoor air quality.

What we deliver

We manage the full BREEAM certification process on behalf of our clients, from initial feasibility and pre-assessment through to design stage and post-construction certification. Our team is fully licensed to act as both BREEAM Assessor and Accredited Professional (AP) for international projects.

Pre-assessment & target setting

  • BREEAM pre-assessment workshops to determine the realistic and achievable rating for each project
  • Initial brief review and scenario development, presented to the client and design team with clear credit pathways

  • Active management of the BREEAM assessment from RIBA Stage 1 through to Stage 6
  • Direct coordination with MEP teams to ensure design decisions are technically aligned with BREEAM requirements from the outset
  • Ongoing monitoring of evolving BREEAM requirements, ensuring projects benefit from the most current guidance
  • Bespoke tracking tools to streamline deliverables and maintain visibility for all parties throughout the process

Post-construction certification

  • Full post-construction assessment, compiling and submitting evidence to achieve the agreed certification target
  • Coordination with contractors on as-built compliance and supporting documentation
