Singapore Colocation Data Centre Expansion and Retrofit
Live Facility. Zero Downtime. Every System Upgraded. That’s the Black & White Way
- Sector
- Colocation Data Centre
Black & White Engineering was engaged as Lead Design Consultant to deliver additional capacity and a programme of critical infrastructure upgrades within an existing operational data centre in Singapore. Managing sub-consultants across architecture, civil and structural, controls, security, project management and quantity surveying, the scope required careful coordination across a live facility where continuity of service was critical.
The Brief
The project required simultaneous delivery across several workstreams: replacing end-of-life air-cooled chillers, adding DRUPS to support projected IT load growth, reconfiguring live electrical distribution, replacing underground fuel tanks and delivering a new gatehouse alongside various facility enhancements. Each element had to be sequenced and phased to protect live operations throughout.
Our Approach
Multi-Discipline Design Leadership
Black & White led the full design team across all disciplines, coordinating architecture, civil and structural, controls, security and MEP workstreams within a single integrated programme. Sub-consultant management was handled in-house, maintaining a single point of technical accountability throughout.
Live Environment Sequencing
Delivering within an operational facility required precise load transfer planning and phased implementation across every workstream. Each intervention was carefully sequenced to avoid service disruption, with contingency built into the programme at every stage.
Critical Infrastructure Replacement
End-of-life chillers were replaced, underground fuel tanks upgraded and live electrical distribution reconfigured all without impact to the operational facility. DRUPS installation was integrated alongside the wider programme to support projected IT load growth.
The Result
- Expansion and critical infrastructure replacement delivered within a live operational facility
- Zero downtime achieved throughout, through precise load transfer planning and phased implementation
- End-of-life air-cooled chillers replaced as part of an integrated upgrade programme
- DRUPS added to support projected IT load growth
- Live electrical distribution reconfigured, underground fuel tanks replaced and new gatehouse delivered
- Full multi-discipline coordination managed under a single Lead Design appointment
